Culture and Villages

Rich in culture and tradition, The Kuskokwim Corporation's 2,800 shareholders consist mainly of Yupik Eskimo and Athabascan Indians. They live in, or are descendants from one of the 10 villages along the Kuskokwim River.

Villages

The Kuskokwim Corporation was formed on April 25, 1977, when 10 ANCSA village corporations located along the middle part of the Kuskokwim River merged. The villages include, Lower Kalskag, Upper Kalskag, Aniak, Chuathbaluk, Napaimute, Crooked Creek, Red Devil, Georgetown, Sleetmute, and Stony River.

Why did the 10 villages merge to form TKC?

Prior to the merger, each corporation operated independently. Each had its own board of directors and staff responsible for running the company. Resources for each individual company were limited. The idea was to create one corporation with one staff and thus reduce the expense of operating several businesses.
