Land Ownership

TKC owns most of the land that border the Kuskokwim fro the twin bluffs below Uknavik to approximately 5 miles above the Tatlawiksuk River. TKC land is privately owned. However, there are many Native Allotments along the river that are privately owned by Native Allottees. TKC does not manage Native Allotments, and each private owner should be contacted for access. There are a few sections along the main river which are State or Federally owned, and public access is permitted.

The first of these is about a 10-mile stretch in the old Kuskokwim channel between Kalskag and Aniak. (Please note that there are four Native allotments within this area which should be respected.)

Other non TKC lands are located on about a four mile stretch on both the North and South banks below the Kolmakoff River, an approximately 2 mile stretch on the North bank around the bend above Napaimute, and another approximately 2 mile section about 6 miles below Georgetown on the South bank, which includes the downstream end of the second island below Georgetown.

Additionally, lands up the tributaries beyond TKC boundaries are almost all under State or Federal ownership. TKC land ownership varies in extent from 5 to 20 miles up any of them (as identified below):

Aniak River - Approximately 20 river miles

Holukuk River - Approximately 6 river miles

Oskawalik River - Approximately 5 river miles (to the end of the first mountain)

George River - Approximately 9 river miles (then interrupted by a section of public lands), and continued from about mile 14 to 25

Holitna River - Mouth of the Hoholitna River

Stony River - Approximately 20 river miles

Hunters should note the Lime Village Management Area beginning at the mouth of the Stink River up to Can Creek. Moose can only be taken with a Tier I subsistence permit in this area. Caribou however may still be taken within this area under normal State hunting permit conditions.
